Nevada Performance Academy enrollment begins Wednesday

Enrollment at Nevada Performance Academy, a Nevada tuition free charter school in Carson City that will serve grades 7-12, begins Wednesday. In an effort to ensure high quality teaching and learning, and because of predicted space constraints, the Academy will limit first-year enrollment in the blended components of its academic program, which is face-to-face instruction and participation in extracurricular classes.

Bicycle Clinic at Bike Carson-Tahoe

Bike Carson-Tahoe will be doing a clinic at the shop on Wednesday night, May 1st, at 6:30 PM. Owner Chris Huber will cover flat repair, a lesson on gearing (numerical explanation, gear overlap, what gear to use, etc.), and also touch on group riding etiquette.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform Resolution Moves on to Congress

The Nevada Assembly voted on Senate Joint Resolution 15 during their floor session Tuesday. The bill urges Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform.

Many of the Assembly members took time to speak to the importance of passing the bill. Assemblyman James Ohrenschall was one of those who spoke in favor of SJR 15.

“Unless you’re a Native Americans, we are a nation of immigrants,” Ohrenschall said.

Jason Collins, first openly gay NBA player garners former NFL coach, Raider kicker support

A day after NBA basketball player Jason Collins came out as gay to Sports Illustrated, a former NFL coach and an Oakland Raider record-setting placekicker believe the NFL is ready to accept a gay football player.

"I don't think the NFL is going to have a problem," said Herm Edwards, former Kansas City Chiefs head coach, now an NFL analyst for ESPN. "Is there going to be a vote of confidence in the locker room? For some of the younger and immature players, but the veteran players — they get it."

With temperatures near record highs, it's tempting to want to cool off in the river but the waters are still very cold and getting into the river too soon can be dangerous.

Memorial fund created for family of teen girl killed in rollover

The teen girl killed in a rollover accident last week in Pleasant Valley now has a memorial fund set up in her honor to help her family pay for burial.

17-year-old Heather Brown was declared brain dead last Wednesday afternoon around 3pm, and had remained on life-support through Friday morning when doctors were scheduled to perform an organ donation procedure.
