Right Skills Now for Manufacturing
Dream It Do It Nevada is currently seeking qualified applicants for a fast-track training program for CNC Operators. The Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR), Western Nevada College (WNC), and Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) have partnered to offer this Right Skills Now program to meet the immediate need for CNC Operators among northern Nevada manufacturers.
Participants will engage in an intensive 16 week training program where they will receive the critical knowledge and hands-on experience for entry-level employment with local manufacturers. This “for-credit” program will also include 8 weeks of job training through an internship with local manufacturers. At the conclusion of the Right Skills Now program, individuals will have earned the National Career Readiness Certificate, four certificates from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills, college credit from either Western Nevada College or Truckee Meadows Community College, and work experience with a local manufacturer who has a current demand for skilled CNC Operators.
WHO: All unemployed or underemployed Nevadans with an interest in pursuing a career in manufacturing. 20 students will be selected for the WNC program and 20 more will be selected for the TMCC program. All participant costs will be covered by DETR.
WHAT: Training in the skills required for entry-level employment as a CNC Operator and the opportunity to prove those skills to local manufacturers. Computer Numerical Control Machine Operators set up and tend to computerized machine tools. These machines are programmed to cut and shape parts made of metal or plastic. The median wage for CNC Operators in Nevada is currently just over $18.00 per hour.
WHEN: Right Skills Now will begin first at WNC on February 27, 2012. This program will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, for sixteen weeks. TMCC will follow with a Right Skills Now program of its own in May, 2012. Class times are to be determined in coming weeks. Paid internships will begin after the first eight weeks of classroom and laboratory training.

The Business Development Advisor for the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC) in Las Vegas reports directly to the Director of Southern Nevada Operations. The position provides assistance to area small businesses in the startup, expansion, and operating phases of their business life cycle. By providing professional management assistance to small business owners and managers, the program creates new jobs in the community. The Advisor also assists business organizations that are experiencing difficulties and by helping area businesses survive and retain jobs. This individual works in tandem with the other programs of the NSBDC, Business Services Group, and funding partners by capitalizing on the existing resources and partnerships while continuously seeking new ones. This position’s specialty will be international trade, especially exporting.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and three years or a Master’s Degree and two years of experience related to business ownership and program or business development, i.e., marketing, advertising, international trade or exporting, public relations and/or promotion of small business endeavors.

QUALIFICATIONS
No person may be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer unless he/she:

Job of the Day – Business Account Executive with Charter Media
BAE is responsible for selling primary and ancillary communications solutions to small and medium sized businesses within a specified territory. Primary services include coax delivered Internet, video and voice. Ancillary services include custom hosting, desktop security, data back-up, data storage, managed security, managed internet router, toll free, additional email addresses, static IPs and more. BAE achieves sales and revenue goals through successful prospecting for new customers as well as the successful sale of bundled services to new customers. BAE is responsible for generating all sales leads through a variety of prospecting tactics and working every lead from initial contact to sale. BAE is responsible for the development and implementation of a Territory Plan (under the instruction of the Sales Manager) which is designed to expand the customer base within their assigned territory. BAE is 100% focused on generating new Internet, voice and video customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Consistently achieve minimum sales and revenue quotas. Sell bundled solutions at every opportunity to deliver value and to maximize revenue
Develop and implement a cold calling strategy targeting all serviceable and near serviceable business prospects; cold call every non-subscribing business within assigned territory a minimum of two times each year
Develop a strong base of business networking associates outside of Charter Business and sign them up as agent referral partners. Train referral agents on how to make the best use of the program and touch base with each on a weekly basis to maximize volume of referral leads
Identify BBT and front office CSR meeting locations, dates and times. Attend meetings weekly and promote field referral program (bring goodies). Train BBTs and CSRs how to generate business referral leads. Work with Marketing Coordinator to ensure public recognition for BBTs and CSRs who consistently produce a volume of quality leads
Identify the primary business associations, clubs and Chambers within the assigned territory and be an active participant. Generate new customer leads through networking. Leverage Marketing Administrator for support as needed
Identify the key commercial real estate developers as well as the main construction contacts for Charter Communications within assigned territory. Build strong relationships with each and develop regular scheduled meetings to identify new commercial developments. Secure ROEs for new commercial developments in advance of joint trench.
Develop a process or method to ensure follow up on all leads and opportunities within 24 hours. Work with Account Coordinator for organizational support
Develop and maintain a territory plan that encompasses essential functions 1 – 7 (above)
Work with Account Coordinator to ensure that all necessary administrative work necessary to support sales activities including sales orders, contracts, billing forms and sales reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner. Hand off customer service and non-sales related client inquiries to the Account Coordinator; focus on selling
Have a complete understanding of Charter Business coax services, rates (individual and bundled) and applicable taxes
Demonstrate selling skills and product knowledge. Practice selling skills with other Account Executives regularly. Read sales books and take sales courses to learn new sales techniques; practice and implement new sales techniques regularly
Maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities including sales calls, presentations, closed sales, and follow-up activities within assigned territory, including the use of Salesforce.com to maintain accurate records to maximize territory potential
Attend and participate in sales meetings as established by management
Create a positive end-to-end customer experience by demonstrating the Good Neighbor Values of being helpful, cooperative, trustworthy, responsive and resourceful
Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

Job of the Day – Reliability Engineer with SNC
Specializing in leading-edge manned and unmanned aircraft control and landing systems, SNC’s Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management(CNS/ATM) Business Area designs and develops surface and airborne radars, 3-dimensional imaging radars, manned and unmanned aircraft flight control systems, support avionics, mobile Air Traffic Control shelters and related products.
The Reliability Engineer candidate will support a number of active programs across the entire CNS/ATM business area. Tasks require detailed knowledge and experience generating reliability analyses and predictions (MTBF) at the system and subsystem level using MIL-HDBK-217 as guidance and conforming to military specifications and handbooks such as OPNAVINST 4410.2A/Army Reg. 700-82/MCO 4400.120 and MIL-HDBK-338B.
Candidate also will work with engineers to design reliability into systems and develop associated sparing philosophies and subsystem/component quantity requirements/recommendations. Candidate also will perform reliability block diagram and fault tree analyses, generate FMEA and FMECA reports, provide supporting data for the LORA and lead reliability demonstrations, perform Reliability Growth Management program execution with captured field failure data and be familiar with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) concepts and Telcordia and Markov prediction model methodologies.
Additional tasking may include maintainability efforts including development of the LORA, life cycle cost analyses, maintainability analyses, maintainability predictions (MTTR) and demonstrations and generation of HALT plans as required.
Candidate will be an integral member of design and development teams providing supporting information, analyses and guidance to design engineers to insure reliability and maintainability requirements are met. Candidate will develop presentation material for the reliability and maintainability elements of programs for formal design reviews.
Candidate will understand, plan, and execute reliability and maintainability tasks in accordance with SNC’s SEI-CMMI Maturity Level 3, ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100:2009 compliant processes and specific Customer quality, cost and schedule requirements.
Candidate will support continuous process improvement, helping to develop and improve processes to positively impact product quality, performance and increase productivity.
Candidate must be expert in the use of reliability and maintainability analysis tools.
Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Candidate may be required to travel for the purposes of design presentations, reliability and maintainability demonstrations, and other interactions with prime and/or sub-contractors.
RequirementsCandidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Candidate shall have 5+ years of relevant experience in reliability analysis and prediction. Experience in maintainability analysis and prediction and ASQ Certified in Reliability is preferred.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. Degree, or higher, in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
