Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

Good morning Carson City and happy Sunday! I hope you're all thoroughly enjoying your holiday weekend despite the weather, which looks like it's going to continue through the upcoming week. Even still, we've got a ton of activities going on in town for the day, so check them out below, and remember to bring a jacket!

Carson City’s Senator Cyclists adopted the newest biking trail in Carson, located behind the softball fields at the Centennial Sports Complex, and participated in a trail clean up Thursday afternoon despite the weather.

The Wild Horse Trail was created by then-Carson-High-Senior Connor McRae and Carson City’s muscle powered as a part of McRae’s senior project in 2018.

Hosted by All World Sports, Midnight Madness begins its All Night Tournaments with an adult slow-pitch event from May 25-27 at Centennial Park in Carson City.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to call up Reno Aces first baseman Kevin Cron, according to John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Arizona Sports and Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.

As we head into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, activities and events around Carson City on Friday will help set the mood for what promises to be a tremendous few days ahead. Heading into Thursday, May 23, 2019 we ask: Can you feel it? Yes, the Memorial Day holiday is nearly here and we may even get a weather break or four in between expected showers through the weekend, forecasters say. Activities and events to round out this third Thursday of the month include a meet and greet of Carson City Library candidates at Adams Hub for Innovation, a day hike, a bicycle cruise on the west side of the capital city, a Lunch and Learn Workshop for local nonprofit organizations, a chamber luncheon focusing on mental health, a GOP meeting, art showings, live music and more. Here's what's happening:

Heading into the middle of the work week, Wednesday, May 22, there's no short supply of places to go and things to do around Carson City. Sure you may want to pull out your parkas or sweaters for the day. All the more reason to take in those rays of sunshine when the clouds break. As we head into Tuesday, May 21, 2019 there seems to be some debate brewing about the weather. Is the persistent series of cold weather systems normal or not? We spoke with a forecaster from the National Weather Service about it and he noted that everyone has an opinion. Some folks swear this happens every Spring, storm after relentless storm through the entire month of May. Some swear the month of May in western Nevada is usually sunny, in the upper 70s to low 80s and comfortable. Whichever you believe, go with it and enjoy. Here's what's ahead Tuesday:

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

Good morning Carson City, and happy Sunday! I'm sorry to tell you we're going to have another sad-weather day, with scattered showers, a high of 52 and a low of 34. But maybe mother nature is just trying to add a little extra water to the lakes and rivers before shutting down for a hot summer? On the docket today we have a pollinator garden site work day, the final performance of Western Nevada Musical Theatre's "Crazy for You" and a National Adoption Weekend event at Petsmart with Res-Que, so stop by and give those pups a snuggle!

Heading into Saturday, May 18, 2019 we say welcome to the weekend Carson City. Activities abound throughout the region. Bring an umbrella as the forecast calls for some showers. But above all, enjoy the events and activities lined up in Carson City, Carson Valley, Mound House, Silver City, Virginia City and Dayton areas.

As we head into the middle of the month many of us haven't turned on the air conditioner because the weather outside has been comfortably, pleasantly air conditioned these past few weeks. And now with valley rain, wind and Sierra snow on the way, we tip our hat to one Carson Now reader, LaNair, who pledged he wouldn't turn on their heater these next few days because, well, it is May after all. Raiders fans are welcome to join Nevada Raider Nation: Carson City Chapter, for a membership drive barbecue Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Espolon Grill y Tequileria in Moundhouse.

Members get together for each game to discuss players, trades, coaching staff and future events. Members are well-versed in history and the dynamics of the game and welcome all die-hard fans to join and attend.

Espolon will offer food and drink specials during this time; drawings will be held each hour for Raiders collectible items. Tickets will be sold 6 for $5.

One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Heading into Tuesday we're looking at breezy conditions and sunny skies, with a shift in the weather Wednesday. But for now, let's enjoy Tuesday, May 14, with indoor and outdoor activities including three separate Muscle Powered hosted events, an archery shoot, Big Band Jazz at Living the Good Life and more. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser event to support Special Olympics on Tuesday May 28, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cocomoes restaurant as part of the signature Tip-A-Cop event benefitting Special Olympics in Nevada. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has volunteered to collect tips and help serve restaurant guests.

Another picture-perfect Carson City day awaits as we head into Monday, May 13, 2019. We're looking at mostly sunny skies with daytime highs in the low 80s. And then by midweek, another round of showers looks likely, which will help cool us off. Activities for Monday include art demonstrations and showings, presentations and more. Enjoy.

The weather is changing at Carson High School and so are the types of clothing some students are wearing. CHS Dean Sharon Hallinan sent an email out to all CHS teachers about this weather changing challenge. Hallinan told teachers to “please remind students of the Dress Code; highlight the fact that bare midriffs and holey jeans, which violate the ‘Fingertip Rule’, are not allowed.”

Happy Mother's Day Carson City! It's going to be a hot one today with a high of 82 and a low of 47. Don't forget to stop by Mills Park for the carnival, which will be packing up and heading out of town tonight. The event lineup features the RSVP Spring Celebration and Carnival kickoff and family night at Mills Park, a Healthy Communities event in Silver Springs, CASA volunteer information hour workshop, an afternoon hike along the Ash Canyon trail, art demonstrations, live music and more. We have activities throughout the region today, including a history presentation in Dayton, a Holocaust memorial service at the Governor's Mansion, art classes, live jazz and more. We want to send a big birthday "shoutout" to our outdoor editor emeritus Don Quilici, who turns 85 today. Don and his wife, Elaine, remain active, maintain healthy walks and hikes around the region and have plans for yet another Alaska outback trip this summer. Happy Birthday Q!
