Carson City Symphony Concert 'Scandinavia and All That Jazz' set for Sunday

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 29th season on Sunday, 4 p.m., with a concert, "Scandinavia and All That Jazz," at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

After the first half of the concert, harmonica player Tom Stryker will lead a harmonica workshop for youth attending the concert. Each will be given a harmonica and learn to play a tune. After intermission, they will perform on stage.

Show Your Talent at Western Nevada College Community Contest

Western Nevada College's Latino Student Club is seeking performers for a fund-raising event on Friday, Nov. 9, that brings students and the community together for an evening of cultural entertainment. All proceeds from the event support WNC student scholarships.

Carson City Legends of the Past Ghost Walk on Saturday

Carson City’s rich and intriguing history is explored and theatrically relived in the 20th annual Ghost Walk – Legends of the Past. The Carson City Ghost Walk is a delightfully spooky and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse past. Meet lingering spirits of the past, including McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain, with many haunted and paranormal stories to take in. Some of our spirits even lead the guided walking tours of the downtown district’s historic homes. Tours will visit inside at least five different houses and locals.

Western Bariatric Institute Hosts Free Fashion Show to Raise Awareness for Obesity

Chamber singers hold concerts in Carson City, Reno

The Carson Chamber Singers, a choral group of the Carson City Symphony Association, begins its 28th season with concerts in Carson City on November 2 and in Reno on November 4. Director Michael Langham will conduct the Singers in works by René Clausen, Randall Thompson, Maurice Duruflé, and Louis Vierne. The Solemn Mass by Vierne, for chorus and organ, will be accompanied by Nancy Mielke.

The Carson City concert will be Friday, Nov. 2, 7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 306 W. Musser St. Admission is free, requested donation $10 at the door.

Contemporary painting featured at Carson City Library on Wednesday

Nevada Neighbors, the Capital City Arts Initiative’s ongoing series of illustrated public talks, will present a talk on contemporary painting by Cassandra Coblentz. Her talk, Conversations in Contemporary Painting, will take place on Wednesday, October 10 at 7pm at the Carson City Library, 900 N Roop Street, Carson City. Preceding her talk, there will be an informal reception for Ms. Coblentz at 6:15pm. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.

Hot wings dished up spicy this weekend in Carson City

Whether they come hot, mild or fire, there's plenty of heat to be found this early fall weekend in Carson City. The Ultimate Wing Wars, a chicken wing cook-off event at the Best Western Carson Station Hotel Casino in Carson City, continues through Sunday.
This second annual event was organized by W.R. “Willie” Davison the self-proclaimed “Chicken Wing King.” The festival features the region’s best bars, restaurants and catering groups who are dishing up their sauced-up wings to the public and are fighting for bragging rights as to who has the best wings.

Second annual Ultimate Wing Wars at Carson Station through Sunday

Expect feathers to fly. The Ultimate Wing Wars, a chicken wing cook-off event at the Best Western Carson Station Hotel Casino in Carson City is now underway, today through Sunday in the parking lot at 900 S. Carson Street.

“Last year’s inaugural chicken wing cook-off event was a tremendous success with thousands in attendance,” said Jennifer Russell, Carson Station’s director of marketing. “This is year we’re upping the ante with more wings, more prizes, more music and more fun.”
